The formulas
- Engagement rate by views = (likes + replies + reposts + quotes) ÷ views × 100. Best for comparing your own posts.
- Engagement rate by followers = the same interactions ÷ followers × 100. Use it to compare accounts of different sizes, with care: a post that reached the For You feed can have many times more views than you have followers.
- Replies per 1,000 views = replies ÷ views × 1,000. On Threads replies matter more than likes: Meta's Threads feed system card lists recent replies on a post among the inputs for ranking.
The calculator runs in your browser and doesn't store the numbers.
What a "good" rate looks like
There is no official benchmark, and the two public ones measure different things. Buffer's April 2025 analysis of millions of posts across eight networks gave Threads an average engagement rate of 4.51%, ahead of X at 2.31%, and noted that Threads engagement had been slowly declining since early 2024 (Buffer). Its 2026 report on content formats uses medians instead: 5.55% for video, 4.55% for images, 2.79% for text posts and 2.34% for posts with links (Buffer). Both come from Buffer's own customers, so treat them as a rough range. If your posts are mostly text, compare with the text median, not the overall average.
A more useful benchmark is your own median. Put your last 20 posts into the calculator, sort them by rate, and look at what the top five have in common: format, length, topic, time. Our guide to Threads Insights shows where to find each number, and how to go viral on Threads covers what tends to raise replies.
Raising the reply rate
Replies come from posts that invite an answer without begging for it, and from showing up in other people's conversations. Answering every early reply under your own post keeps the thread active during the first hours. If you want help with the second part, Replyvero finds posts in your niche and drafts short replies that, by default, wait for your approval before they go out.
Questions and answers
How do you calculate engagement rate on Threads?
Add up likes, replies, reposts and quotes, divide by the post's views and multiply by 100. Divide by followers instead when you want to compare accounts rather than posts.
What is a good engagement rate on Threads?
There's no official number. Buffer's studies put Threads at a 4.51% average in April 2025 and at medians from 2.34% to 5.55%, depending on format, in 2026. Beating your own median matters more than either.
Should I use views or followers for Threads engagement rate?
Use views for single posts, because the For You feed shows posts to people who don't follow you. For comparing accounts, followers are steadier: a post's view count is public on its own page, but it swings with how far the feed pushed that post.
Where do I find views and interactions for a Threads post?
In Threads Insights on your profile, or by opening the post's activity. Our guide to Threads Insights explains each metric.
