# Threads font generator

> This Threads font generator turns your text into bold, italic, script and 13 other Unicode styles for a post, reply or bio. The main text of a Threads post has no bold or italic button, so these styles are look-alike characters: copy one, keep it short, and remember that most styled letters are 4 bytes of data and screen readers may not read them.

## How the Threads font generator works

The generator swaps each Latin letter for a look-alike Unicode character, mostly from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block. Only the 26 letters change, plus digits in the styles that have them; accented letters, other alphabets and emoji stay as they are. The result is made of characters, not formatting, so it survives copy and paste into Threads, Instagram and most other apps.

Threads does have real formatting in one place. Meta's [API documentation for text attachments](https://developers.facebook.com/documentation/threads/create-posts/text-attachments) lists bold, italic, highlight, underline and strikethrough for attachments of up to 10,000 characters. The 500-character main text has no such option, so for a short post, a reply or a bio, Unicode letters are the usual workaround.

That workaround has costs:

- **Characters.** A styled letter is one character on screen but more data underneath. Most are 4 bytes, a few styles (small caps, circled, wide) use 2 or 3, and the list above shows the exact count for each style. Meta documents byte counting only for emoji, so check long styled posts in the [Threads character counter](https://replyvero.com/tools/threads-character-counter/).
- **Screen readers.** They may skip these letters or read them oddly. Keep the important words plain.
- **Search.** "𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐝" is not the word "Bold" for search engines or Threads search. A styled post is harder to find.

## Where styled text helps

One bolded word at the start of a list item, a short heading in a long post, a name in a bio. Short posts did well in our own data: in 901 posts we collected from Threads search in October 2026, 478 of them selling posts (268 Russian, 210 English), the English selling posts that took off had a median length of 88 characters, against 119 for the rest ([how to go viral on Threads](https://replyvero.com/guides/go-viral-on-threads/)). Styling won't rescue a weak post, but it can make a strong one easier to scan.

For a bio, the words matter more than the font. Our guide on [how to grow on Threads](https://replyvero.com/guides/grow-on-threads/) covers what a profile visitor should see first.

If you write a lot of replies, [Replyvero](https://replyvero.com/threads-auto-reply/) drafts them in plain text in the author's language and tone; by default you review and send each one.

## Questions and answers

### Can you make text bold on Threads?

Only inside a text attachment, the long-text add-on you can put under a post. The main text of a post or reply has no bold button, so bold-looking text there, or in a bio, is made of Unicode letters copied from a generator like this one.

### Do Threads fonts affect the character limit?

A styled letter shows up as one character, and our counter counts it as one. Meta's API documentation counts only emoji by their bytes and doesn't mention these letters, so if a styled post is close to 500, shorten the styled part first.

### Are fancy fonts bad for accessibility?

Often, yes. A screen reader may spell a styled word letter by letter or announce each letter's Unicode name, which turns a short bio into noise. Use a style for one word or a short heading, never for the whole post.

### Why do some letters look different from the rest?

A few styles have no Unicode letter for every character, so the generator leaves digits or punctuation as they are and uses the closest symbol for letters such as the script E or the gothic H.
