## How we built the list

We opened the Threads search page of each candidate tag and kept the ones that show a community with a member count: 64 as of October 20, 2026. The counts change every day. Meta said in December 2025 that there were more than 200 communities ([Meta](https://about.fb.com/news/2025/10/introducing-threads-communities-find-your-people/)), so this is a sample: the biggest general communities plus business, creator, lifestyle and sports topics.

Some topics a freelancer would look for first, such as startups, freelancing, careers or finance, had only a topic tag and no community when we checked, so they aren't in the list. If a community you need is missing, search for the topic in Threads directly.

## How communities work

Meta launched communities in October 2025 by combining topic tags and custom feeds, testing them on more than 100 topics such as NBA, TV and K-pop ([Meta](https://about.fb.com/news/2025/10/introducing-threads-communities-find-your-people/)). In December 2025 it expanded them to more than 200 topics, added team-level spaces like Lakers Threads, and began testing "community champion" badges and member flair ([9to5Mac](https://9to5mac.com/2025/12/15/threads-communities-champion-badges)). In June 2026 communities came out of beta with a hub in the main menu, their own icons and a "community progress" view for topics that are close to becoming one ([Meta](https://about.fb.com/news/2026/06/meta-launching-new-features-500-million-monthly-threads-users/)). Meta still approves which topics get a community ([The Verge](https://www.theverge.com/tech/950480/meta-threads-500-million-monthly-active-users-communities-your-algo)); the Japanese version of the announcement says a topic qualifies once enough people put its tag on their profiles or posts ([Meta Japan](https://about.fb.com/ja/news/2026/06/meta-launching-new-features-500-million-monthly-threads-users/)).

Three things matter if you use Threads for work:

- **Membership is public.** Communities you join show on your profile. Join the ones that describe what you do: a designer in Design Threads reads as a designer to anyone who opens the profile.
- **The tag is the door.** A post with the community's topic tag can reach members who don't follow you. A post carries [one topic tag](https://developers.facebook.com/documentation/threads/posts), so pick the community that fits best; how tags feed into ranking is covered in [how the Threads algorithm works](https://replyvero.com/guides/threads-algorithm/).
- **Replies count.** Meta gives champion badges to members whom others in the community follow, who post there regularly and who keep conversations going in the replies ([Meta](https://about.fb.com/news/2025/10/introducing-threads-communities-find-your-people/)). Meta's own [Threads feed system card](https://transparency.meta.com/en-gb/features/explaining-ranking/ig-threads-feed/) also treats replies as a ranking signal.

## Picking communities for your niche

Start with the big general ones in your field (AI Threads, Business Threads, Tech Threads or Marketing), then add one or two narrow ones where your buyers are: Author Threads and Book Threads for a book editor, Teacher Threads for someone who sells lesson plans, Real Estate for an agent. Read a day of posts before you post. Some communities are mostly memes, others are full of questions you can answer.

A good first week: reply to five posts a day in the community with something specific, post once with the tag, and check in [Threads Insights](https://replyvero.com/guides/threads-insights/) whether views from people who don't follow you went up. ### What are Threads communities?

Official topic spaces on Threads, such as Book Threads or NBA Threads. Each has its own feed built from a topic tag, its own Like emoji (a stack of books in Book Threads) and a public list of members.

### How do I join a community on Threads?

Search for the topic in Threads or tap a community tag on a post, open the community page and tap Join in the top right. The links in our list open each community's tag search, where the Join button is.

### How do I post in a Threads community?

Meta describes three ways: pick a community you've joined when you write a new post, post from the community's own screen, or add the community's topic tag to your post.

### Can I create my own Threads community?

Not yet. You can help a topic along by using its tag on your profile and posts, and Threads shows how close a topic is to becoming a community. Connor Hayes, head of Threads, told The Verge in June 2026 that letting people make their own communities might arrive within the next year.

### Are there Threads communities in other languages?

Yes. In June 2026 Meta started making communities local, beginning with native-language tags in Japan, Korea and Taiwan. Every community in our list has an English name.
